BECOME A READING STAR!
Join the Millionaire Club by reading 1,000,000 words!
What?
Students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade will be
striving to read 1,000,000 words this school year.
Why?
If a child reads one million words a
year, at least one thousand words will be added to their vocabulary.
Studies show that children who read voluntarily experience higher academic achievement in reading, writing, vocabulary, spelling, and grammar.
Reading as a leisure activity is the best predictor of comprehension, vocabulary, and reading speed.
State Standard ELA4R2 mandates that students read 1,000,000 words per year.
How?
Students should follow the guidelines
below. Reading for the 2007-2008 school year may being on May 19th.
